The Erratics are a series of temporary, small-scale shelters for adventurers such as bird watchers, pot holers, fishermen and kayakers. This project focuses on the refuges produced by three companies (Farmarina Inc., Wally Evans and EADS-Swift), their occupants and how the refuges are used.

The refuges are made of a combination of prefabricated factory made elements, recycled/found materials and objects as well as locally sourced natural materials.

Designed to comply with global planning regulations, the Refuges are now exempted from the requirement to obtain planning permission in most rural areas. This especially advantaged class of structure was developed to promote outdoor pursuits in rural areas and the economies of these areas. The refuges were originally developed for the European market.
